Macaroni Wednesday, April 25, 2007
almost but not quite. Guglielmo Marconi was born in 1874 in Bologna, Italy and died in 1937 in Rome. Guglielmo did astound the world with the many uses of his patent 7777 for "tuned or syntonic telegraphy" in 1901.

He was the first to send wireless messages across the Atlantic. Guglielmo actually had several patents and was revered by other scientists and common people alike. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1909.

Marconi did not invent Macaroni or the Grill after that name! (But they do use wireless to let you know your order is ready)? Or is that Fuddruckers? I actually
prefer Cheeburger Cheeburger which opened in our town in January. MMM!!

It is an Italian name. America name would have been Cheeseburger
Cheeseburger.

Prokofiev (Russian Composer)was born this day in 1891 in Sontskova and died in 1953 in Moscow.  Although neither was thought of as a musician this is also the birthdate of William Shakespeare in 1564 and of James Buchanan in 1791. James was the 15th President of the USA. He served as U.S. Minister to Sergei's homeland (Russia) and Bill's homeland (England) before becoming President.

Buchanan was remembered as not particularly adept in the Presidency and maybe he was handicapped because he never married and did not understand compromise as a good wife would have taught him. (Or else). (He is the only President of the US who never married.)

Today I was reading Psalm 51 and I noticed for the first time the phrase David's statement," Thou dost desire truth in the inmost being," which reminds me of a statement made by E. Stanley Jones that Christianity is not a "show" business, but character. Not what people see us do but what is done when not seen. God looks on the heart.

finches are outside my office window at the bird feeder, which is also outside my office window. Imagine how hard it is to concentrate when a flock of finch (try to say that fast three times) hit the feeder. I will admit that I paused from my pedantic pace and peered playfully at them. It makes buying a bird feeder and paying for their food worth it.

It also reminds me that it is time to put out the hummingbird feeders. They don't say much, mostly just hum, but are still fun to watch. Funny I would mention hummingbird, I just this instant saw my first one of the year and he was hummmming where the feeder has been the past six year. It is time!!!

I wonder Who created all that beauty for us to enjoy???

is the "wright" day to be born if your name is Wilbur. Wilbur Wright was born in Millville, Indiana in 1867. He was the third child of Bishop Milton and Catherine Wright.

His father said of him:
In memory and intellect, there was none like him. He systemized every thing. His wit was quick and keen. He could say or write anything he wanted to. He was not very talkative. His temper could hardly be stirred. He wrote much. He could deliver a fine speech, but was modest.

Does this remind you of anyone you know? Me neither!

What great patience it took for the work he and Orville did. For a time no one would believe what they did because it would be impossible for a couple of bicycle shop owners to invent what "great inventors" could not. Finally the world accepted and embraced them, realizing theirs was not just a "fly by night" idea. But a fly by day or anytime.

Unfortunately, Wilbur died at age 42 of typhoid. A young life but a very productive one. Remember Kittyhawk!

FDR Thursday, April 12, 2007
died this day in 1945. I remember the date well because I was in elementary school in Oklahoma City and had just returned from a friends birthday party when the news was broadcast on our radio station. Ordinarily I would not have been listening to the news report but I was in the house looking for a place to hide from the tornado that was shaking our house and knocking pictures off of the wall and tossing plates out of the cupboards. My mom and dad were both at work. (I was able to convince them that I did not break the dishes) How well I remember that day, even now.

The drama of the moment for a young child was unbelievable. Here I am scared to death in a tornado and the broadcaster broke in and said, "news flash" President Franklin Delano Roosevelt has just died." I was not thinking I was next but I can still hear that voice and feel the house shake. WOW! Imagine the sound of a freight train bearing down on you and then that announcement.. Double WOW!!
